    v0.8.0

    Latest release

    The Session gets a band

    • The Session has a band now. Real drums and a double bass count you in, play a groove (straight, swing, ballad or bossa), listen to how hard you play, and end the tune with you.
    • The band plays bass and drums only, so your notes are the harmony. If you would rather hear the chords, turn on vibes or piano in the setup.
    • Four new tunes to jam over: a 12-bar blues, a jazz blues, a minor blues and a modal vamp. Or set it to endless and it loops until you stop.
    • The keyboard on screen now lights up the notes that fit the chord you are on, and changes as the chords change. Chords that step outside the key light up their own notes.
    • While you play, a bar sweeps along with the beat, and just before each change a line tells you which note to land on.
    • The combo builds over the run, the way a solo does. Resting does not lose it. Only a whole bar without a chord note cools it down.
    • When you finish, the results say why you got that grade, show your best on that tune, and point at one chord or note to work on next time.
    • Hear your take: play your solo back over the band.
    • The little box that shows which notes you are holding can now be turned off, set to names or a staff, and moved to either corner. It is in Settings, under Practice.
    • Your best score on each tune now backs up and syncs with everything else.

    v0.7.6

    A new look, and steadier under the hood

    • A new MidiSlayer mark and wordmark, drawn the Monoglyph way. You will see it in the title bar, on the icon and on midislayer.com.
    • Every release is now put through its paces on real Mac, Windows and Linux machines before it reaches you, including updating over an earlier version with practice history in place.
    • If your keyboard disconnects during an exam or a timed game, the app pauses and picks up when it is back.
    • Backups restore with your progress totals intact.
    • Sign-in details are stored more securely, and switching accounts asks before combining history.
    • Small improvements to notices, wording and stability throughout.

    v0.7.5

    Nothing fails quietly any more

    • Fixed: if a Grand Piano sample failed to load, the piano stayed silent for the rest of the session with no warning. It now tells you, tries again on your next note, and plays as soon as the load succeeds.
    • Fixed: in the demo, once you dismissed the unlock prompt on a locked piece, your keys were ignored without a word. The lock bar now answers every note, and the prompt comes back only after a pause.
    • Fixed: if an update failed to download or install, the banner simply vanished. It now says what went wrong and offers to try again. Your current version keeps working either way.
    • What's New opens on the newest release; earlier ones sit behind Read more.
    • The Windows installer now names Monoglyph Ltd as the publisher.
    • Terms and privacy policy updated, dated 5 September 2026.
    • Small fixes to licence handling and settings storage.

    v0.7.4

    One title bar, and a keyboard that knows its size

    • Fixed on Windows: the app showed a native title bar stacked on top of its own, with two sets of window buttons. One bar now, the app's own.
    • New: tell MidiSlayer how big your keyboard is by pressing its lowest key, then its highest. It is a step in setup, a button in Settings under MIDI Device, and a Detect button beside the on-screen keyboard. The keyboard on screen and everything the app asks you to play stay within your keys.
    • Both came from user feedback. We are listening, and we will keep making the app better with you.

    v0.7.3

    Faster to the ear

    • Every note sounds sooner. We trimmed a sliver of silence from the front of each Grand Piano sample and removed a small built-in delay from the output stage, together about a sixtieth of a second off every keypress. It reads tiny and feels immediate.
    • Graded Reading now deals the raised seventh in minor keys from Grade 1, exactly where the ABRSM parameters put it.
    • New in Settings, Soundbank: an honest note that a digital piano's own built-in sound always beats any app on latency, ours included.
    • Under the hood, the whole toolchain moved up a generation, including the sheet music engine. If a score suddenly renders differently, tell us.

    A quieter quit

    • Fixed: with sync turned on, quitting could show an error and need a second try. It closes cleanly now.

    The one-day fixes

    • Fixed: the Practice and Analytics tabs would not open. A security setting broke them in 0.7.0; it is gone.
    • The virtual keyboard now spans three octaves, C3 to C6, and Z or X moves the computer-key octave.
    • Sheet music opens in the paper-white theme by default; if you chose dark, dark it stays.
    • Replay the welcome tour any time from Settings, About.
